TuneWell Privacy Policy

TuneWell is a music player for the audio files already on your device. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no server of ours behind it. Playing your local music is fully offline. A few optional features go online, each off until you turn it on: online lyrics, metadata lookup, scrobbling and the Telegram music browser, all described below.

What We Collect

Nothing.

TuneWell has no sign-up or sign-in and no servers of ours that receive your information. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking identifiers of any kind. SeMo Lab never sees your music library, your playlists, your listening history, or anything else — there is no system on our side that could receive them. If you leave the optional online features off, TuneWell sends nothing over the network at all.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your music library index (file locations and tags), playlists, favorites, ratings, play history, equalizer presets, settings including your chosen app language, lyrics found online (kept per track), covers downloaded through metadata lookup and the metadata changes you apply, waveform and audio-analysis results, and any audio downloaded through the Telegram feature are stored in the app's private storage on your phone, which Android shields from other apps. Nothing is uploaded to us.

If you connect the Telegram feature, the bot token it uses is stored in that same private storage in plain text. TuneWell does not encrypt its local data and has no PIN, password, or biometric lock; the protection is Android's own app sandbox, and the data is removed when you uninstall.

If you sign in to scrobbling, TuneWell keeps either a ListenBrainz token or a Last.fm or Libre.fm session key, plus any listens waiting to be sent. Your password is never stored, and signing out deletes the token or key. Like the Telegram token, this sign-in data, the lyrics, the covers, the metadata changes and the analysis results sit in that same private storage, in plain text and unencrypted, and are removed when you uninstall.

Audio you play or save offline from Telegram is downloaded to your device, and channel photos are cached alongside it. Clearing your Telegram data does not delete those downloaded files — it removes the token, the channel list and the audio index only. Each channel has its own “Delete Offline Files” action for the downloads, and uninstalling the app removes everything.

On first run TuneWell reads your device's language setting to pick a starting language. That reading never leaves the device.

TuneWell never modifies or deletes your music files — its access to your library is read-only. This app data is excluded from Android's cloud backup, so no copy of it goes to any cloud account.

Like every music player, TuneWell exposes the currently playing title and artist through Android's standard media controls, so things like Android Auto, smartwatches, and lock-screen controls can display them. That stays on your devices.

Output diagnostics keep a short technical log in memory while the app runs. It is never saved to storage and never sent on its own.

Network Connections

TuneWell goes online only for the four optional features below. Each one talks directly to its own service, never to SeMo Lab.

Online lyrics. Off by default, and switched on in Settings. When a track has no lyrics on the device, TuneWell sends that track's title, artist, album and duration to LRCLIB (lrclib.net).

Metadata lookup. Off by default (Settings → Library → Online metadata lookup). It runs only when you open the lookup for a track or album. It sends the title, artist and album as search terms to MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org), and downloads the cover of the release you pick from the Cover Art Archive (coverartarchive.org).

Scrobbling. Only the services you sign in to: Last.fm (ws.audioscrobbler.com), Libre.fm (libre.fm) and ListenBrainz (api.listenbrainz.org). TuneWell sends the artist, title, album and length of the tracks you play, when you played them, and what is playing now. Signing in to Last.fm or Libre.fm sends your username and password once, over HTTPS, to that service in exchange for a session key. Your listening history then lives in that account, under that service's own policy.

Telegram music browser. This feature lets you browse and play audio from Telegram channels. It talks only to Telegram's official API (api.telegram.org).

What is sent: the bot connection token and the channel and file references needed to list and download audio. What is never sent: your music library, your files, your playlists, your identity, your phone number, or any device identifier. The feature is read-only — TuneWell cannot post anything to Telegram. As with any online service, Telegram sees your device's IP address, and its handling of these requests is covered by Telegram's own privacy policy.

Two things to know if you use it: once connected, the app contacts Telegram on its own — every time it returns to the foreground and every time you open the Playlists tab — with no per-sync action from you, and there is no setting to switch that off; disconnecting is the only way to stop it. Opening the Telegram screen while disconnected also contacts Telegram once, to check the built-in bot. By default the feature uses a shared bot identity built into the app — so channels indexed by that shared bot may include ones added by other TuneWell users. If you prefer full separation, you can connect your own Telegram bot instead. If you don't use the Telegram feature, none of this traffic ever happens.

Requests to LRCLIB and MusicBrainz identify the app by name and version, with the address of its page on this site, as those services ask. That is a label, not a connection to SeMo Lab, and no device identifier or personal data is added. Each service sees your IP address, and its own policy covers that. Your music files, library, playlists, identity and phone number are never sent anywhere.

Sharing & Backups

Sharing a track or exporting an equalizer preset opens the standard Android share sheet, and you choose the destination entirely — nothing is uploaded automatically anywhere, and we never see it. There is no automatic cloud backup of TuneWell's data.

Settings → Output diagnostics has a Share button for its log. The log contains your phone model and Android version, audio hardware and output details, connected USB audio devices with their technical descriptors, the names of tracks played during the session, and setting changes. It goes only where you send it, for example to the developer by email or message.

Permissions

TuneWell requests: access to your audio files (the Android media permission, plus read access to the specific folders you choose yourself through Android's system folder picker), internet access (used only by the optional online features: online lyrics, metadata lookup, scrobbling and the Telegram music browser), and background playback permissions (a foreground media service, wake lock, and audio settings access) so music keeps playing with the screen off.

When a USB DAC is connected and you run its test, Android asks your permission for that device first.

On Android 13 and newer, tapping TuneWell's notification while the phone is locked shows TuneWell's player over the lock screen. It is on by default, can be switched off in Settings (Player on the lock screen), and shows only the player.

TuneWell does not request "All files access". It can only read the folders you explicitly grant it, and Android — not TuneWell — controls that grant.

It does not request location, camera, microphone, or contacts.

Children and Minors

TuneWell collects no personal data from anyone, of any age, and therefore collects none from minors. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no user-to-user communication. The optional third-party sign-ins (Last.fm, Libre.fm, ListenBrainz and Telegram) follow those services' own terms.

Because no information ever reaches SeMo Lab, there is nothing for a parent or guardian to request the deletion of. If you have any concern about a minor's use of the app, contact us at info@semo-lab.com.

Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete the personal data a company holds about you. SeMo Lab holds no personal data about TuneWell users, so there is nothing for us to retrieve, amend, or erase. We do not sell or share personal information, because we never receive any. Data you send to LRCLIB, MusicBrainz, the scrobbling services and Telegram when you use those features is governed by their own policies. To delete scrobbled listening history, use your account on that service. Signing out in TuneWell removes the stored token or key.

You keep full control of the data on your device: clear the Telegram connection or its downloaded files from within the app, remove playlists and history at any time, or uninstall the app to erase everything it stores. There is no cloud copy to clean up afterwards, and your music files themselves are never touched.

Changes to This Policy

If TuneWell's privacy practices ever change — for example, if a future version adds online streaming services — this page will be updated first and the date above revised. Material changes will be described here rather than quietly amended.

October 7, 2026: this revision adds online lyrics, metadata lookup and scrobbling, each optional and off until you turn it on or sign in.
