WeatherWell Privacy Policy

WeatherWell is a weather app. Forecasts inherently require sending a location to a weather service — so this policy is precise about which services those are and what they receive. What it doesn't require is collecting anything about you, and we don't: WeatherWell has no accounts, no analytics, and no server of ours behind it.

What We Collect

Nothing.

WeatherWell has no sign-up or sign-in and no servers of ours that receive your information. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking identifiers of any kind. SeMo Lab never sees your location, your searches, or anything else — there is no system on our side that could receive them.

Your Location & the Weather Providers

To fetch a forecast, WeatherWell sends the coordinates of the place being forecast — your current location if you allow it, or a city you picked — to the weather provider you select in Settings. City search sends the text you type. These requests include no name, email, or identifiers of any kind — with one exception: MET Norway's terms require the app to identify itself, so calls to it carry the app name and the developer's contact address (ours, never yours). Like any web request, they also reveal your device's IP address to the provider.

The providers WeatherWell can use, each under its own privacy policy, are: WeatherAPI (the default — also used for city search), OpenWeather, Visual Crossing, Open-Meteo, QWeather, MET Norway, and Pirate Weather (under its terms of service). Separately, Meteostat via RapidAPI supplies past weather rather than forecasts: opening the Past Weather card sends your coordinates and a past date range to it. Weather icons are loaded from the providers' servers as well.

Most of the time your coordinates go only to the provider you selected. Two features send them to more than one: Compare providers queries all eight at once so you can see their forecasts side by side, and Custom blend queries every provider you have assigned to a metric — up to all of them — each time the forecast refreshes, including background refreshes and widget updates. Each provider receives only a coordinate pair, under its own privacy policy linked above.

Three behaviors to know about: if your chosen provider is unavailable, the app automatically falls back to other providers on that list, so coordinates can occasionally reach a service you didn't select; the app also refreshes the weather in the background (roughly hourly) using the default provider; and turning coordinates into a city name uses your device's built-in geocoding service — on most Android phones, a Google service.

WeatherWell only ever reads your location while you're using it (it holds no background-location permission), and the app itself stores your position nowhere but on your device.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your settings (including any personal weather-API keys you enter, stored as plain text), your favorite cities, and cached forecast data — including the coordinates it was fetched for — are kept in the app's private storage on your phone, which Android shields from other apps. Recent searches are not saved at all: they are held only in memory and disappear when you close the app. Nothing is sent to us.

Android's own device backup may include WeatherWell's data in the backup tied to your Google account, like it does for most apps. That copy belongs to your account, is managed by Android, and never reaches SeMo Lab.

Notifications

Weather alerts (umbrella, UV, wind, temperature) are generated on your device from the forecast data it already has. They are not pushed from any server, and WeatherWell registers with no push service at all.

Sharing & Exports

Sharing the weather sends plain text through the Android share sheet to a destination you choose; your location name is included only while the "Share Location in Weather Data" setting is on. Exporting your settings creates a single file — including your favorites and any API keys you entered — handed to the share sheet the same way. Nothing is uploaded automatically anywhere, and treat an exported file with care, since your API keys are inside it in readable form.

Permissions

WeatherWell requests: location (only while using the app, only to fetch your local forecast — never in the background), internet (the weather requests above), notifications for the local weather alerts, and restart-after-reboot so the background refresh keeps working.

It also declares a few permissions that Android never prompts you about, listed here because Google Play shows them in the app's permission details: vibration and wake-lock (used when an alert fires), foreground-service and network-state (used by the background refresh), and the badge permission some launchers need to show a notification count.

It does not request your camera, microphone, contacts, or files. The app also explicitly removes the activity-recognition and legacy storage permissions that its framework would otherwise add, so they are not requested at all.

Children and Minors

WeatherWell collects no personal data from anyone, of any age, and therefore collects none from minors. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no user-to-user communication.

Because no information ever reaches SeMo Lab, there is nothing for a parent or guardian to request the deletion of. If you have any concern about a minor's use of the app, contact us at info@semo-lab.com.

Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete the personal data a company holds about you. SeMo Lab holds no personal data about WeatherWell users, so there is nothing for us to retrieve, amend, or erase. We do not sell or share personal information, because we never receive any. The weather providers' processing of forecast requests is governed by their own policies, linked above.

You keep full control of the data on your device: reset your settings in the app, or uninstall it to erase everything it stores. Exported files, and any device backup in your own Google account, remain under your control.

Changes to This Policy

If WeatherWell's privacy practices ever change, this page will be updated and the date above revised. Material changes will be described here rather than quietly amended.
