LedgerWell Privacy Policy

LedgerWell is a personal finance app for tracking debts, split bills, income and expenses. It runs entirely on your device, with no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. This policy explains, plainly, what that means for your data.

What We Collect

Nothing.

LedgerWell has no sign-up or sign-in, no user accounts, and no servers that receive your information. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no tracking or identifiers of any kind. SeMo Lab never receives your financial data, and we could not access it even if we wanted to.

Data Stored on Your Device

Your accounts, transactions, contacts, split details, income and expense entries, wallets, categories, repeating entries, pay-back deadlines and reminders, receipt photos, custom currencies and settings, including the name you choose to show on your own share of a split, are saved in the app's local storage on your phone. They stay there. Nothing is uploaded, synced, or backed up to us.

Receipt and invoice photos you attach are resized and kept in LedgerWell's private storage, not in your photo gallery. When you pick a photo from your gallery, LedgerWell saves its own copy and leaves the original untouched. Photos that no longer belong to any record are deleted the next time you open the app.

If you enable the optional app lock, your password never leaves the device and is never stored in plain text. Only a SHA-256 hash of it is kept in the device's secure storage. If you use fingerprint or face unlock, that biometric data is handled entirely by Android and is never accessible to LedgerWell.

Reminders

If you set a follow-up reminder on a debt or a split bill, LedgerWell asks Android to show a notification at that time, unless it has been paid back by then. Reminders are scheduled and shown entirely on your phone: there is no push service and no server involved, and nothing is sent anywhere.

The notification shows the person's name and the amount (for a split bill, everyone who still owes). Whether it appears on your lock screen depends on your Android notification settings.

Network Connections

LedgerWell makes exactly one kind of network request: fetching public currency exchange rates from exchangerate-api.com so your balances can convert into your default currency.

That request contains no personal or financial information: no accounts, no transactions, no identifiers. As with any request to any website, the provider can see your device's IP address. While Auto Update Exchange Rates is on, rates refresh when the app opens (at most every 12 hours), and they also refresh whenever you tap Update Exchange Rates. Turn off the automatic update and don't use that button, and the app makes no connection at all; everything else works fully offline. Receipt photos and reminders never use the network.

Backups You Create

The export feature writes your accounts, transactions, contacts, split details, income and expense entries, wallets, categories, repeating entries, pay-back deadlines and reminders, receipt photos, custom currencies and settings into a single file that you save or share wherever you choose. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and we never see it.

Once you have exported a file, keeping it safe is up to you. It contains your ledger in readable form, along with your receipt photos and whatever they show, so store or share it with the same care you would any personal financial document.

Permissions

LedgerWell asks only for what its features use: internet access (solely to refresh exchange rates), biometric authentication (only if you turn on the app lock), the camera (only when you choose Take Photo to add a receipt), notifications (only to show the reminders you set), and start at boot, so the reminders you've set are rescheduled after your phone restarts.

Android asks for your permission the first time you choose Take Photo and, on Android 13 and later, the first time you set a reminder. LedgerWell never asks at launch.

The notification component LedgerWell uses comes bundled with Google's Firebase messaging library, which declares two more permissions: viewing network state and keeping the device awake. LedgerWell isn't set up with Firebase and doesn't use push messages, so that library stays inactive and neither permission is used.

It does not request location, microphone, contacts, or storage access. Photos you choose from your gallery come through Android's photo picker, which shares only the photos you select. The only other files it touches are ones you explicitly pick when importing or exporting a backup.

Children and Minors

LedgerWell collects no personal data from anyone, of any age, and therefore collects none from minors. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no user-to-user communication.

Because no information ever reaches SeMo Lab, there is nothing for a parent or guardian to request the deletion of. If you have any concern about a minor's use of the app, contact us at info@semo-lab.com.

Your Rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete the personal data a company holds about you. SeMo Lab holds no personal data about LedgerWell users, so there is nothing for us to retrieve, amend, or erase. We do not sell or share personal information, because we never receive any.

You keep full control of your data on your own device: you can export it at any time, erase it with Reset All Data in Settings, which also deletes your receipt photos, or remove everything by uninstalling the app. Uninstalling deletes it all, and there is no cloud copy to clean up afterwards.

Changes to This Policy

If LedgerWell's privacy practices ever change, this page will be updated and the date above revised. Material changes will be described here rather than quietly amended.

October 4, 2026: LedgerWell 1.10.0 can now ask for camera and notification permission, for receipt photos and debt reminders. Photos stay in the app and in the backups you create, and reminders are scheduled on your phone. Nothing new is collected, and nothing new leaves your device.
